Yes, it sounds as though you will be among the first to have Tiger in hand. Just the luck of pre-order and your time zone. Will look forward to your comments. Also noticed the price difference for your family pack, sorry.
Yep - no worries. I will post some pics of the setup sequence and time it takes to install etc. :D
Prices down here for Apple stuff are rediculous as you can see. There has been much controversy over the years regarding Apple's pricing policies in Australia. They obviously know they have a loyal base of customers and they are just taking advantage of it... :(

Those that might know the answer to that question are under NDA. The latest seed for Select ADC members is still 8A425, dated the 28th of March.
That is correct!
But, it almost doesn't matter.
Whatever you install (or boot on a new machine with Tiger pre-installed), will automatically launch Software Update and get the latest version online...
... you won't be able to finish install or boot of a version that is not current...
... Apple can put anything they want into the boxes!

There is no guarantee in life. It has been offered before, so IMHO it is very likely. I already have more than one Mac, so I also will need to purchase Tiger separately. Already have plans to use the discount, so yes I'm waiting.I just figured the $35 Amazon.com rebate was good enough for me. I need Tiger separately, and figured it was a nice deal.

what exactly is the "tiger release party?" there are at least 3 or 4 apple stores within my area.. id be curious to know what one is.. id prolly go to one lol... :o
An event to release tiger. They have all of their computers running it that you can fiddle with, and apple store employees show off tiger features in the theater. There's usually some sort of giveaway (last year it was a G5 iMac, I believe) and when you leave they give you a freebie. Last year it was these lame dog tags.
If you want to go, go early, because there *will* be a line.
It's pretty fun, but alas I will not be able to make it this year. :(

Just to be clear, if you have a pre-GM Tiger seed installed on you system, it will *not* be updated to the GM (or later) via Software Update. You'll need to install the GM seed (or official release) and go from there. At least, that's the way it worked for past OS X releases.

What party did they give away an iMac G5??? Panther was released September 2003 and the iMac G5 didn't come out until nearly a year later. If they had a G5 iMac release party, then why was I sitting here at home with not clue that a release party for the iMac happened? Could you explain that?

I actually like the dog tags, planning to wear them to the Tiger release party. My wife and I plan to be there at 4pm, so we can have a repeat of being first in line.
At our local Apple Store today the staff was handing our cards of invitation to the party. "Tiger World Premiere, Win a PowerBook G4, an iPod, or other prizes." Friday, April 29, 6pm to midnight.

I have a question for those of you who have ordered using the "up to date program." When you check the status of your order at Apple.com, does it have the shipping listed on the right side as 2-day?
Thanks for the help.

We did last year, one needs something to do while waiting in line for up to two hours. There is also talking to other Mac fans in line. Also bring your laptop to take advantage of Apple's wireless.

"but i dont think it will come when tiger arrives on a new computer"...??? What has changed there then? Why wouldn't iLife be preinstalled along with Tiger on NEW HARDWARE?? (or do you mean something else and I'm going off on a tangent??!!!)
haha dont panic :) it was just a thought, but if you look on apple's website ilife comes with a new computer, so if you buy a new computer now you will get ilife and you can just get the upgrade for tiger and you will get both for sure :D

I think they have some there. At least I have read that somewhere. Perhaps it will be Apple Cider. I also came up with a really funny night there where Christina Applegate and Tiger Woods would be there. Also, Sigfried and Roy would be there with their Tiger. :)
(I know. My puns are lame. :) )

I was checking my order status and it appears that the Up-to-date orders ship first? I have a Tiger Edu on order and it said it will ship out by the 28th, but on my Up-To-Date order, it said it will ship out TODAY! :)
Is my order status messed up or something?

hey Fabio
why can't you order it directly from Apple and pay US$ or buy it from an authorized distributor on the internet?
Either way, I'll have to pay the taxes, what will increase the price to this level, about US$ 1300... same price find at Apple's authorized dealers here in Brazil... But the Mini is realy the most affordable Mac ever here, because it's very "cheap"...
The biggest problem in Brazil is taxes that you have to pay when you import eletronics... that's the reason why wintel computers are so popular here. You can buy some parts on the black market (most of the parts arrive in Brazil without taxes via Paraguay) for a very low price...
Even used Mac's are very expensive. An iMac 800mhz, for example, was about US$ 2800. With the anouncement of the Mini, the price of used Macs droped considerably...
But, I'm tired of Windows and now I'm finally had the opportunity to buy a Mac and definitly switch it...
Thank you!

Your order status says open, which means that it hasn't shipped yet. I wish you success. It appears that you purchased two Macs, what kind?

Maybe the up-to-date DVDs are shipping ground, so they have to send them out early to reach people on time. On the other hand, the pre-orders are going to be shipped 2nd day air.

I broke down and pre-ordered Tiger as well. I was going to wait a couple months for a maintenance release or two, but all the excitement got the best of me. Besides, I was already buying Office 2004. I also bought a 1 GB Shuffle today at my local Apple store. My will power has been very weak as of late. :)

Who really cares about Classic anymore? Shouldn't everyone have transitioned by now? While 95% of my software is native to OS X, there are the straggler games and apps that won't be coming anytime soon, if ever. I still need Adobe Streamline, for instance. I use it daily.
I really hate the attitudes that abound that "if it doesn't affect me then it truly isn't important". This board is lousy with it.

Pancakes,
No problem with Tiger on that machine. In fact, you'll probably see speed improvements, with Tiger. That machine and Tiger will be a great combination.

One thing that has me holding back on Tiger is that Spotlight, et al doesn't seem to much more than several other items I use. I use Firefox, so I have a gmail notifier, weather, etc on my browser..I can add flight times, stock quotes etc very easily....There are also a number of apps that let me do desktop searches.
I guess I'm not sold yet on the primary features yet...

Pre-ordered Tiger on Amazon and then received an estimated ship date of 29 Jun...once Apple announced the release, I cancelled my order at Amazon and used the Apple Store. I ordered the bonus pack: iLife 05, iWork and Tiger for $249. Seems like a good deal, and it will be here this month! :)

Amazon is shipping on the 28th of April. If you're an Amazon Prime member like myself, the $3.99 Next-Day shipping will get it to you on April 29.

Anyone know why Apple is offering nearly a 50% educational discount on the single-user version of Tiger ($69 vs. $129), but not offering a discount on the family pack???
Will the single-user version really only let you install once?

While there's obviously no guarantee, I've always found that Amazon is extremely conservative in their shipping estimates. I always use Super Saver shipping and have always had my order ship well before their estimate. I got Return of the King extended edition via Super Saver last December. Amazon said estimated ship was after the release date, but it arrived at my house the day before release.
If I were ordering from Amazon, I'd go Super Saver, but as I said, you never know. They put in a conservative estimate to cover themselves in the rare case that it actually takes that long. ;)

They've done this since they started offering the family pack. 2 educational copies are still quite a bit cheaper than family pack, and for 3-5 computers, the family pack is cheaper than educational copies. Pick the one that works best for you. ;)
Will the single-user version really only let you install once?
If it's like previous releases, there is no serial number, activation, or anything else like that. You can install off the same copy as many times as you want, you'll just get that horrible feeling inside that you're doing something terribly bad and wrong. :o  :p
It's worth mentioning that Apple does have serial numbers in their pro apps (FCP, OS X Server, etc) and I've read -- but never seen myself -- that they will look for other running copies with the same serial number on the local subnet. If they find something, they'll disable themselves until the other copy quits. Or so I've read. ;)

I guess that (according to the Edu discount logic...) Apple assumes an edu. priced piece of software is going to be serving one starving student. The discounts are intended through people going through (or working at a) school, so they can afford more Apple toys.
I don't know many college students with 4 G5s to upgrade.

This is a bit different because Amazon is being told by Apple, when they can ship Tiger, on April 28. I love Amazon prime membership. Anything, even if it costs $3, ships 2-day air free, and anything can be had next-day air for $3.99. I've used it for Powerbook, cinema display, loads of books, etc. The Powerbook and Cinema display alone for next-day air has already covered by $79 Amazon prime membership for the year.
If you want Tiger early though, I'm still trusting Apple.com, for I'm hoping it could arrive a day early, from them. I've got orders with Apple and Amazon to ensure I have the best route picked out.
