Optical drive failure?

Hi, I have a 2002 700 mhz eMac. i think the optical drive is broken, because its not recognizing any discs at all. i couldnt even boot from the apple diagnostic test cd. i have searched all over google. can someone help me troubleshoot this. :confused:

It is actually very easy to replace the optical drive on an eMac. Google "eMac optical drive removal"
I have replaced my eMac's optical drive as well as the HD many times.
