First time really using it, I've been an adium fan for years. Of course there are a few things about iChat I'd change and I knew Chex does that but the dev hasn't released a Lion update yet.
With that said, are you using iChat or another app? I've configured iChat to be very similar to Adium but I just wish small things like having the list expand out based on the number of people online would be added.
One huge improvement I can see apple adding is to use a chat notification system similar to iOS 5. Where they get rid of the chat window interface and just have the app built into the top bar. Embed it into the OS instead of having a separate application.
I dunno just brain storming.
