My iPod Nano (3rd Gen, I think) was stolen while on holidays. My travel insurance company requires proof of purchase. I don't have the receipt or the original box (I had these recycled long ago!).

However, I'm sure there must be evidence on my MBP somewhere that it's been in my possession. In particular, I mean that I registered my iPod with my MBP some time ago.

Is it possible to find/access a file somewhere which I could print out proving that I did, indeed, own this iPod?

A profile on your computer wouldn't be proof of purchase. But if you look through your iTunes settings you may find it listed in the backups section.

Is there a way to extract that back up to see the ipod's serial?

I think if you double click the backup it comes up with the Ipod's details. I haven't used the feature since iTunes 9 so I'm not sure if it still works.

Hmm ... backups box is empty. It's not for proof of purchase for a retail store, it's proof for an insurance claim. Any other ideas?

When the insurance company wants proof of purchase they want receight. I doubt they would accept a screenshot from iTunes or similar.

Agreed.

OP, couldn't you request a statement from your bank/credit card holder/paypal/whatever you used to pay for it?
