a friend of mine who lives and works in hong kong says he saw TIGER available at pirate stores there. i'm not surprised, as i saw iLife05 there a few days before it actually came out in the states. bad stuff.. but what can you do.. some info on this site:

anyone else out there wishing Apple sold "upgrade" kits, so that i don't have to pay for each upgrade. i have a copy of Jaguar, Panther, and soon... Tiger. oh well... dedication, what can you do. haha.

they technically are upgrades. what mac came without an operating system? Just so happens they allow you to not have to install all previous OSes to get the newest installed so it kinda acts like a full retail OS. Just remember that apple doesn't sell computers without OS X or OS 9 on them.. In other words.. everyone who buys OS X 10.4 is UPGRADING to it from a prior Mac OS operating system. Thus, an upgrade.

that is true. that is true.
then, i supposed i wish they could reward dedicated fans somehow..
maybe make the retail versions cheaper for those who bought previous retail versions. because as you said, they come with the computer so if anyone who buys retail can only mean that they "upgraded" from another version of OS X. ah.. just a thought, prices are coming down anyway so there's really no need to complain.

I'm not sure if I'd trust installing a pirated Hong Kong version of Tiger on my new iMac G5. I just don't want to screw anything up.

Compared to say a full version of Windwows XP (or even the upgrade) I'd say Tiger is a bargain and far better... but cheaper is always good :D

The myth is you have to pay for each upgrade. In fact some people I know haven't even paid for 9 let alone X and are still quite happy on their Macs.

You get the operating system that is necessary for your business, and upgrade as needed. Don't just buy it because you want it. Too many people who complain about Apple's operating system costs can't separate need from want.

Well talking about the article:

I like that apple only give you the option of running new apps if you have the new OS........that is how thay keep their users so up-to-date and also gives the mac platform a higher 'satisfaction' because it is up-to-date :rolleyes:
