View Full Version : Replace F3 Shortcut with Dashboard?

How can I replace the F3 (NOT fn+F3) shortcut to show Dashboard instead of Mission Control? I used to have my dictionary widget quickly accessible that way.

I looked in the Keyboard Shortcuts pref pane, but the options don't seem entirely configurable.

I think keyboard maestro (available online or in mac app store) can do this by remapping the key when combined with but as I don't own the program I can't confirm this. Also, check out functionflip (http://kevingessner.com/software/functionflip/).

However, with lion I believe if you just right click on a word you can get the dictionary definition. Could be wrong though as I haven't upgraded yet.

Um…F4 is dashboard. Unless you just bought a new mac with Lion preloaded.

To address your underlying issue -- Quick access to the Dictionary: Three finger tap any word anywhere in the OS will pop up the definition. If its a word you want to type in, just do so in Spotlight in the corner.

I knew about the three-finger tap, but typing it in Spotlight is actually more work because then I have to use the arrows and move down to the dictionary entry. Thanks, though.
