doesnt make mention that there are two generations of minis, might be worthwhile to mention simply because of the color differences

simple and straightforward though, which is good for the novice user

umm, they may have fine tuned the colors a little, bumped up storage, and increased battery life, but how does that constitute another generation? they are otherwise identical.

well new sizes and battery life alone make 'em new generations, not to mention the new colors as well, so they are a new generation, they are different than the first minis that came out so it probably should be noted, if they are going to note the first and second gen of the original iPods

From a functional (and specifically an accessory perspective) standpoint there are identical. Which is why it's not distinguished.

They should go into the performance characteristics of the various generations. I can tell you from experience the 2G iPods are so terrible in performance when trying to navigate. There is a 5 second lag as the iPod tries to load into memory the various playlists and whatnot. The newer iPods don't have this lag. Plus they can play audiobooks which are very important to me.

doh and now I've gone and made an *$$ outta myself. Perhaps I jumped the gun but it just seems since Jan there has been a flood of "fluff" articles popping up on iPods, ala "people like their iPods alot" or "people use their ipods on the train", and things of that nature.

nah... it's actually not a great general interest article... again mostly of interest when trying to match up accessories to your ipod.

yea, but there were actuall differences between first and second gen ipods, such as the touch wheel and the firewire port cover. there are no such differences with the minis. they don't call it a new generation everytime they bump up the specs a little, if so we'd be on second gen photo ipods, and who knows what gen of regular ipods

They only specified differences if it had to do with purchasing accessories - they didn't mention "tech specs," as the average consumer would not really care... we mostly all know differences, like the black screen of the 1,2,3 G ipods vs. the blue one of the 4G... they don't need to mention that - its not important

Boy can I vouch for this. I just upgraded to a 40GB Ipod photo from a 2G 20GB and I didn't fully realize how painfully slow the 2G was when it came to navigating through the different menus. Loading the playlists, artists or songs took forever!
