View Full Version : Does new Lion Recovery change your Time Machine choices?

Lion comes a new feature called Lion Recovery. It uses a special part of your HD partition to keep an image of Lion. Then if you want to clean install in the future you can.

I'm wondering if this causes a change in backup strategy for Time Machine/Time Capsule users.

For instance, I have been running Time Machine without modification (exclusions) so it backs everything up, my data, my apps, my OS installation files. With Lion Recovery, is this now overkill and should I now exclude OS Files/Apps from my backup?

I think that continuing to do the same old plan would be the most flexible for me and offer the most recovery options if something went wrong. But it will also cost the most disk space.

The 2nd option is efficient on disk space but it is less than a complete solution (IMO).

What are you guys planning to do?

Thanks,
Richard
