So, I'm having some heating issues on my MBP, and I am thinking about doing a clean install. But am I going to have to erase the whole hard drive first, and then install SL first, or is there a easier way to do this without having to install SL again??? Thanks in advance.

If you do an archive and install you'll still have the "upgraded" version (10.6-10.7) on your machine. If you want to re-install and get rid of all possible conflicts from your previous system you'll need to do a Clean Install which WILL destroy your disk data. That's the whole point of "Clean".

Or I guess you could boot cmmd-r to the recovery partition and wipe the install from there.
