I thought of an easy way to have all of the advantages of a clean install of Lion without going through erasing and recovering everything on your drive.

I have some free space on my laptop's hard drive. What if I create a new partition from that free space and install Lion on it while keeping Snow Leopard on the other partition? Can it be done? Has anyone here had trouble with this setup?

Thanks in advance

Yes. You can do it. Most of your apps will need to be re-installed to the 10.7 volume to launch and you'll need to change 10.7 to look at your 10.6 "Home" folder. So it doesn't really save much time as you can just copy your Home folder wherever. It's the apps that can't be launched off a 10.6 volume in 10.7 that take the time and negate any benefit. Some cocoa apps may work but it may be janky and totally not "Clean".
