Apple is going to look stupid as duck poop if they don't announce dual core G5's on Sunday.

Alienware is taking orders for the new dual cores now.

Yup. Stupid as poop.

Yeah. Apple needs its suppliers to gear up. This is looking bad.

I think Intel is telling us that they know Apple plans to introduce a dual-core G5 on Sunday, which is why they are trying to steal the thunder by announcing their dual-core today.

Kinda childish, if you ask me.

I would think Intel's move was more about the dual-core AMD processor coming on the 21st of April. I'm not sure Apple even shows up on Intel's radar screen.

Thank you, DaveL, for reinforcing my premise that Intel is trying to trump Apple. You inadvertently proved that if Intel wanted to upstage AMD, whose dual-core comes out on the 21st, they could have just waited until Monday, April 18th. But the announcement came out today - to claim "first with a dual-core" bragging rights because they KNOW Apple will announce on Sunday.

Even though you may have a snarky attitude about Apple not being a big enough player to warrent notice by Intel, I think Intel would hate to be upstaged by puny little Apple. Again.

First of all, it isn't Apple that makes dual-core CPUs, it's IBM. If Intel was interested in upstaging IBM with regard to dual-core, they missed the boat by several years (Power 4 was dual-core; the antecedent to the G5, aka 970). Since the IBM dual-core CPUs don't play in the Wintel PC space, Intel doesn't give a sh**. Secondly, you're making the assumption that *very* vague rumors of a 970MP appearing between now and the AMD release are true. Although I would love to see this happen, I don't consider it a high probability event. Do I know anything special? No, and neither do you, unless you're being coy.

Intel may be ready to ship dual-core CPUs but are software developers doing anything about it? Apple has offered dual CPU systems for years and they have optimised their OS and applications to take advantage of multiple processors. You have to wonder how the current version of Windows and every application available for it will take advantage of the second CPU core. Multi-processor support is not something that can simply be added to an application; if it was then every OS X game, Doom 3 included, would have it.

I do not think Apple is behind in technology. They were selling 64 bit dual-CPU systems when Intel was promising dual-core.
