Does anyone know the steps to setup remote screen sharing in OS X Lion? i.e. system on network A in Alaska screen sharing with system on network B in Hawaii.

It's sorta the same as in SL.

The shared screen computer must have screen sharing enabled in the Sharing prefs pane. The firewall of that machine and/or the router must allow for incoming connections to that port (IIRC 5900 for screen sharing, but double check). I believe it will automatically open the port in your Mac's firewall, but you need to check your router as well.

Next you need to connect remotely, and you'll need the IP address of the shared Mac. You can plug this into a browser, using vnc://<IPaddress>:5900 (the latter being the port that you opened for screen sharing). That should get you there. You'll probably see a login screen, or perhaps be asked for the password (which you may set on the shared computer or not).

One new squiggle with Lion is that you can access separate users' screens. So some VNC client software has a problem with that; you generally need to use the password AND user name of a running account.

If this sounds complicated, try the easy way: set up an iChat with the remote computer and you can access it that way. Dunno if FaceTime does it though.

Or get a copy of ShareTool by Yazsoft installed on both computers; it allows secure screen sharing over SSH, does a lot of the hookup automagically, and allows all kinds of other sharing (iPhoto, iTunes, BusyCal, EyeTv, etc etc.). VERY handy.
