Hey guys, didn't know if this was a Lion thing or a macbook pro thing but here goes:

Was just checking out the "About This Mac" feature, and under Storage where it lists music/movies/apps etc, i have 75gb of "Backups", what exactly will that be? I use time machine if that makes any difference but obviously that backup is on another drive

Would appreciate any info!

i have 271.9MB in that Backup portion..

you said 75GB? are you sure? that seems outrageous.

could be the new 'Recovery' partition that Lion creates?

could it maybe be backups of app settings or something like that? maybe apps like Safari do this by default?

Not a 100%, but I think it's that space that's used for local backups. To check you can plug in your TM drive and let TM catch up on any backups. Then check your storage again to see if your backup storage on the MBP changes.

even though he said his TM backups are on an external drive?

Yeah its 74.88GB!

also it says i have 155.54GB free, but finder says i have 230.41 so that 74gb is pretty much the difference

also my time machine backup is totally up to date, and if its the Recovery Partition like RWil85 said, 74.88 seems like a very large and odd amount of space!

No worries..I'm the same way - would've wanted to know what that was, also.

I had the same on my Macbook, chewed up 20gb of space.

I usually turn TM preferences to off if I'm not connecting to my external drive for a while and just turn it back on when I'm at my workstation, unless I want to backup via snapshots for any reason.
