Install Mac OS X Lion says my toolbar...
Before pushing the icon I checked for my most used apps, converted some, switched to others for some...

What about printing using a HP2600n, does that work or does the use of Lion also require the purchase of a new printer?

PS
Still not sure I wanna push that icon

I no longer have my HP2600n, but I had a driver for it on Snow Leopard that migrated over when I purchased my 2011 MacBook Air with Lion. I received the HP driver update 2 days ago, so I'm guessing that it still works. I still see the HP as an option in System Preferences.

My 2600n is on my home network and still plays well with Lion. I did a Lion upgrade on my iMac my printer was there when I first booted up.

I did a clean install on my MBP and had to reinstall the 2600n. But Lion found it on the network, downloaded new drivers and had it up in a few minutes.

Works great without a hitch! On upgraded machine and on a new machine.

I 'upgraded' to Lion, my 2600n still printed but the colors went weird. Tried to update the drivers, Lion went on the prowl to Apple and couldn't find any drivers for the 2600n.
Now my colour printer doesn't work. That's the most serious complaint about Lion, there are others.

I have been a Mac user since 1986 and want to know why are Apple becoming so much more like Microsoft, releasing new operating systems that are worse than the older version?

So how come the posters above you confirm 2600n works with Lion?
You need to temper your comments!

No problems with the 2006n here either. Working on a fresh install of Lion. Had the printer powered on before setting it up in Lion. Lion automatically downloaded the required driver.

I have the dark haze over graphics and stuff.

I tracked it down to having the latest 2600n firmware installed and with Apple drivers later than 1.3.0. I believe Apple package 2.5.2 and later.

I haven't been able to use my printer since installing Lion. I did a reformat and install. The drivers from HP site worked fine in 10.6.x but don't work in Lion anymore.

You guys that are working could you possible check to see what version of firmware your printer is running? It should be listed on the first page I believe when you visit the printers IP address.

Well I am tired of waiting on HP for a fix. I still want them to fix this problem, but in the mean time here is a package I made.

Install it at your own risk, but shouldn't break anything.

Just be sure to read the comments when installing! When setting up the printer you may see two drivers, don't pick the 1.3.0.261 driver. Pick the plain "HP Color LaserJet 2600n" driver.

I wasn't sure what a good upload place was, if you have a better one let me know.

Please contact HP CEO Meg Whitman and tell her how terrible the OS X drivers are for this printer and how it affects you!

I feel like an idiot, jumping into 10.8 without considering if I'd be able to print afterward.

Cashxx, any chance for a Mountain Lion fix for an HP 2600n?

Cashxx, any chance for a Mountain Lion fix for an HP 2600n?HP has not released a driver for the HP Coloor LaserJet 2600n since MacOS X 10.5 Snow Leopard. You have to do what everyone else does when they want to continue to use a printer that is no longer supported by its manufacturer. Use a CUPS driver from the Linux Foundation's OpenPrinting project (http://www.openprinting.org/printer/HP/HP-Color_LaserJet_2600n).

Thank you, MisterMe. But I'm not sure I'm competent to install this.

What's to install? Put the .ppd file in your /Library/Printers/PPDs/ folder.
