Calling all ska fans...I found a great site to get ska music, it's http://www.emusic.com. You can sign up for the free trial and get 50 free mp3s (that integrate well with itunes). They have quite a bit to offer, from the Toasters, Planet Smashers, Skankin Pickle, MU330, Slapstick, Skatalites even...quite a few artists, including most of the Asian Man Records artists. After your 50 free mp3s, if you decide to cancel, it's easy. I kept my service though, $10/mo for 40 downloads is worth it.

BTW, what ska band are you listening to now? I'm listening to the Planet Smashers first album (just downloaded it).

I'm just amazed that Ska is still around. About 10 years ago, I had a roommate that was in a Ska band, The Suspects. Great music, I never understook why it didn't take off.

I got quite an education in the music business.

Oh, well. They broke up about 6 years ago, after 4 or 5 self-produced albums.

I'm gonna get my hands this month on a favourite from when I was 17-18: The Beat -- I Just Can't Stop It.

SKA ---> Rock Steady ---> Reggae ... What a progression :D

Skatalites --- Godfathers of SKA, and they'll still rock a stage show!

"My Boy Lollipop" by Millie Small (http://reggaewoman.com/rw-millie.htm) is one of my favorite early-60s ska songs (1964).

My favorite band of the 1980s Brit ska revival was The Specials, and here in Chicago we had a great ska band called Heavy Manners.

Yeah, I used to be big into ska in the mid-90's. I first got into the 2tone-era stuff, then got more into the "traditional" stuff like the Jamaican ska, rockstead, skinhead reggae and such. I still listen to a lot of it.

As a matter of fact, I'm supposed to go see Desmond Dekker tomorrow night! He had a big hit here in the states with "The Israelites" (I believe, my history is probably off a bit).

I didn't get into much of the newer stuff. I designed a couple flyers for Skankin' Pickle, and used to photograph a lot of other bands I saw. I put out a few zines back then, so I was always going to shows. I still have most of my CD's, except for one I recently broke by Skinnerbox. It was a good CD, I wish I could download it somewhere since I already bought it!

Big fan of the 80's Madness and Specials... also really like the Clash reggea/ska inspired songs... of todays band I think No Doubt (at least the early stuff) and Less Than Jake has picked up the thread nicely... I like most artists with a good ska beat, agressive punk guitars, in-you-face attitude and a nice horn section who doesn't take themselves to seriously... :D

I've been listening to a lot of Desmond Dekker lately and a few days ago I just bought more of his songs. A lot of his stuff is available in iTunes. Although he's reggae, not ska, I love Eek-a-mouse. Unfortunately his best stuff isn't available in iTunes.

Eek-a-mouse makes some good music, true. But he's a TOTAL A-SH-LE!!! Why?

Check this... A friend of mine played Bass for his European Tour. When the tour was over, Eek-a-mouse left, leaving the band to find their own way back to the U.S. :eek:
