USB Painfully Slow

Hi all,

I have just upgraded to lion last night and now am finding that my network connection and usb/firewire connections are painfully slow. I took an hour to copy a 3.5gb file to a usb hdd. I fear something is not right. Has anyone else encountered this problem?
