View Full Version : How does the 2011 keyboard compare to the 2010?

My first post on this forum!
Is the keyboard on the 2011 13” any better than that on the 2010? I currently have a maxed out 2010 13” and the keyboard feels a little … well, dead is the best way to describe it. As if there isn’t quite enough room for the full key action. Nothing like as good as a standard Apple keyboard.
I’m assuming things are the same on the 2011 model, but would love to hear otherwise!
The keys of my 2011 11" seem to be softer, I like it better.

The 2011 have more tactile response to them. They feel more solid.

I like the newer keyboard as well - the keys seem to have a bit more of a concave shape, which I really like.

I can't really compare since this is my first Air, but as a writer, I will say that typing on the Air is a pleasure.

I've found the backlight of the 2011 to be much better than the 2010. ;)

Thanks for all the useful comments. :)
I changed from a 15” MacBook Pro to a 2010 MacBook Air earlier this year. The only things I really missed were the backlit keyboard and the feel of the keyboard. :(
Glad to hear that the 2011 MacBook Air has been improved. I look forward to trying one out in an Apple store soon! :apple:

I know this is an old topic (sorry), but I just tried out a MacBook Air 2011 in the shop and it is indeed a lot better.
I've hardly used my 2010 since the keyboard is so useless. The keys are so light to press that I constantly have to hold my fingers up in fear of touching the keys slightly because it will press them.
The 2011 is a bit harder to press and a bit more of a tactile 'click'. Much improved. I never thought of that when I went for a refurb 2010.

The 2011 has keys with more travel that are thicker. The 2010 are thin and generally feel a bit weak. I know what you mean!
