Same here. And I wouldn't even think of buying one right now. It amazes me that people would spend so much money when they could get a much better PC. I love apple, but god, the prices are so high that it amazes me. Apple computer rock, but they are slow, and they are expensive. Yeah, a good OS is cool, but not that cool (the same goes for iApps).

I don't even know how to describe this statment. You say you love Apple, but you wouldn't buy one of their machines? I have a 500mhz G3, and I think it's pretty fast for what I use it for. I Love my Mac. It's the best computer I've ever owned. I switched from a 1.5ghz PC, and I personally think my iBook outperforms that machine. I guess some guys need faster computers to compensate for other things... :D

Well I love apple, but I am mad at them. Right now it is a love-hate relationship :D... I love the apple community, and the creativity of macs, but I hate the hardware and compatibilty issues. I had $600 to spend on a computer, and I am much happier with my 2.4 GHz pentium 4 then I would be with a obsolete mac. If money wasn't a problem I would probably get a mac, unfortunately money is a big problem (especially when your 15). ;)

800mhz iMac, and I don't care how fast your pc is, this mac is anything but slow....and actually even if it is slow in comparison a mac user still is more productive (speed wise) because he has more time to spend working on the mac since he doesnt have to reboot it every half hour....lol, heh.......
but seriously, I still don't understand what so many non-mac users are doing spending all their time on mac discussion boards, maybe it's just me though, I just know I don't spend much time at all (actually none) on pc boards, and when I was on a pc I was looking through the mac sites to learn more and figure out what I was going to get and when, but I WAS planning on getting a mac so what I'm questioning isn't really what pc users are doing on a mac board (I mean of course you'd be interested :)) but what pc users who have no intention of getting a mac are doing on mac sites. And it's not just a "cool" os, I personally think that even though you might consider some mac hardware "dated" I think the quality you get in a mac compensates for the price, sure there are plenty of bargain pcs for under a grand but what are you really getting, and I know from experience even similar priced pcs like gateways are complete crap. Also the only "hardware" I would even consider to be "outdated" are the processors and that is actually the only complaint I ever hear about macs, the speed. What programs are you running (and need to be) at age 15 that you need the fastest processor available, maybe it's not the case for you but I think for most people it's a case of Tim the Tool man Taylor's speed envy.

scem0, no offense... but why the hell do you come here? I haven't seen one intelligent post from you in the past month. I just bought a new dual 867. I sold my 450 for 1200. Got a brand new mac for 1600 education.

What's so shocking about that? The fact is for the audio work I do, I like the mac the best. You can go play your Doom III or whatever on your PC there.

Please, for my sake, stop driving me nuts with your repetitive, obnoxious posts, and your ugly ass avatar.

And no... I am not usually one to flame like this... but god man. There's always one on forums it seems...

Wow, a PC gets praised around here and it's immediately deemed as bullsh*t?

Macs are slower. Get over it.

They're also expensive. Not everybody can afford to be in your elite little Mac club.

scem0 needed a new computer. He had $800. He's already got an older Powermac and a CRT iMac.
For $800 he could buy a brand new CRT iMac, but what would be the point in that if he's already got one?
So he looks in the used Apple department. For $800 he could buy a Powermac that's similar to the one he already owns. Again, what for?

Now scem0 goes eBay searching. He does a lot of research and finds a seller with good feedback. This seller isn't selling an Apple, he's selling a Dell. scem0 looks at the specs and finds it to be a helluva deal for only $600. He buys it.
He is satisfied that anything he does on his new Dell is much faster than what he did on his Powermac.
He could have saved up another $800 and bought a dual 867, but what for? A slower computer for more than twice as much as he paid for his Dell?

You Apple zealots need to get out of your hole and realize that the lines are blurred where they were clear before.

I never said PCs weren't faster. They are. They beat the pants off my G4... I'm no zealot. You're the fool for reading WAY too much into what I said. I basically just can't stand scem0. I have PC myself, in addition to my mac. Dual athlon, and it screams.

But for audio work, I like my mac.

You wasted a lotta time on that post man...

Ummm, no offence, but knock it off. Scem0 isn't so bad. If you like Macintosh best, fine.

Btw, if you consider him to be obnoxious, consider yourself to be in the same league. If you don't like his posts, don't read them. If you don't like his avatar, don't look at it.

You like to prove you are 15, don't you?!

I just thought I would mention I think I am getting a 1GHz TiBook (have to make a choice) since I have never been able to have the fastest machine on a thread.... at least now I will until someone will a 1.25 PM comes on.

wow thats pretty cool of you :)

anyway scemo really took a chance with that
post and im glad he did. it took balls.

dont worry scemo, you just touched a nerve...it
pissed me off too :D but i gotta admit the
flame on you was a little too personal for my
taste.

people dont by macs for speed (this has
become the new tactic that we mac folks
use) we buy them for the whole package.
its true. i dont want a stinken PC just because
its faster. i do graphics and the mac is fast
enough...i pay a premium because i like
quality and not worrying about how to fix
my computer.

That is very true. You don't buy Macs for pure
speed, you will always get disappointed (unless
you spend a lot of money). But I couldn't deal
with a slow computer anymore. I am sure
someone can understand that. I must admit
that I really miss OS X, but Windows XP
isn't as bad as people say it is on this forum (or
as ugly).

God, I am going to change my avatar... Nobody
seems to like it... Y'all are all just jealous. It's
OK... I know I am good looking. :D:D:D. I will
change it as soon as I can think up a good idea,
and incorporate it into an animation. Y'all will
just have to look at my gorgeous face until
then. I hope y'all understand ;) ....

BTW - b4 I get flamed by someone for being
egotistical or something like that, I want to say
that my remarks about my avatar were sarcastic.
You have to be cautious now days. :o

of course we are mac zealots, its a mac forum. and no mac isn't slow. Im running OS X 10.4.7 on a G3 400. and have hardly any slowness. honestly if you're gonna mock us for being mac zealots at least stay away from where we are the most likely to have zealots.

1.8GHZ G4 processor

I'll jump on the bandwagon too. Nothing like resurrecting an old thread!

I have a 1.5 Powerbook and am about to get a new iMac or mini. Sure, I have a couple Windoze machines, but I use them to primarily play World of Warcraft or Oblivion. When I want to work on video, photos, burn DVDs or program I like my Macs. I wish Leopard was available right now so I could get a mini, set it up to dual boot with Boot camp built in and also get XCode 3 at the same time. It won't be a problem later though.

It does amuse me the amount of people that say that Macs are more expensive than equivilent PCs though. Maybe that was true when this thread started, but I just don't believe it now. I just built up a decent game machine (Windoze) and the main components that I was able to purchase wholesale and performed the labor myself cost $600. That was for a Athlon processor, 2GB RAM, motherboard, and nVidia 7600 PCI-xpress graphics card. I provided my own case, monitor, keyboard, hard drive, DVD drive, CD drive, floppy drive, power supply and mouse.

Now I can use my same peripherals with a KVM switch and a Mac mini and I have the best of both worlds. My wife also gets my most excellent G4 Powerbook.
