View Full Version : Encoding 1080p with HB - Stuttering audio issue

I hope that someone can help me with this. I am busy converting my DVDs and BRs into mkvs. These will be used to watch on the TV and then I am also planning to encode the mkvs into universal H.264 files so that they can be used with an ATV in the bedroom, an iPad and so forth.

I've started to encode these mkv files and the SD ones work fine, but I am having an issue with the first 1080p clip that I am trying to encode. The audio stutters in "busy" scenes. In other words, when there is a lot of sound, like for example rain, then the audio stutters badly. I've uploaded a short clip to demonstrate the problem.

I've tried all the different bit rates and audio codecs and stereo vs surround sound options and nothing helps. Some of the different settings make the problem slightly less annoying or more, but it's always there.

Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this? This is happening with all of the Band of Brothers BR rips.

Download and run mediainfo (http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en) on the problem file and post the full results so we can take a look and see if anything is wrong with the file, an encode log from Handbrake would also be nice.

Everything looks ok from the mediainfo report, what version of Handbrake are you using? If you're not using the latest nightly then try that.

I am using 0.9.5, which is apparently the latest version.

No, 0.9.5 is the last stable version and is very old now, January 2011 I think. Grab the latest nightly version from:-

https://build.handbrake.fr/view/Nightlies/

The nightly versions are much better that 0.9.5 in terms of speed and they fix lots of bugs.

Thanks. I shall check it out and report back.

Edit: Thanks Roidy. The latest nightly build fixed the issue
