Canon 30D

I'm looking into getting into photography as a hobby. I have a basic point and shoot camera but looking into purchasing a Canon 30D from a good friend of mine, for a good deal, who is a photographer. Do you think this will be a good 1st camera to start of with?

the lens is the make-or-break to a camera when it comes to picture quality.

http://www.lensrentals.com has many to try out. generally speaking the 24-70L is THE lens for a Canon.

good lenses like that one are ~$1,000. are you ready for that lol?
