View Full Version : Just getting into this....what I have/what I need

I currently have ITunes installed on my main windows machine with a 1 TB drive. I have my media folder on a partition that has 750GB free. I also have a 2TB External drive that I've been using to sync/mirror all data from my desktop to it for recovery.

I run a G Network using a Linksys WRT54G router.

My machine is an I5 | 8GB RAM | Win 7 64Bit | 2GB ATI Card

I just bought the ATV 2 and am wanting to starting ripping my 200+ DVD's into my iTunes. I have quite a few Blurays, but don't have a BR Drive on my PC and I usually buy the BR that come with a digital copy when available.

Might also add I do have a Macbook Air, iPAD 1, 2 x iPhones.

Am I missing anything. Any hangups with stuff I've listed above. How to organize the media. Should I get a separate drive? Or just create a folder on my desktop and continue syncing over for recovery purposes.

I would have a drive dedicated to movies then another drive that clones said movie drive in case of a crash. Although you should rip and store your DVDs, having to re-rip after a crash sucks so best just to make a cloned drive.

I use Handbrake, which is also available for windows. There is another program that is better, so I understand, and gets through DRM much better. You have to pay for it though, it's called DVD Shrink if I recall.

Basically it sounds like you have what you need, you just need storage and sure have some redundancy built in.

I backup using Carbonite, a cloud service that's $55/year. It will only backup one machine however. And if it's a Windows backup you can only restore to a Windows machine (not a Mac).
