This might be extremely dumb and answered a few times but ill ask anyway

Is there any way in OSX to get the OS to globally make all text bigger so that its readable from the couch like windows does?

Ive essentially set up the mac to do this but this is my only problem now when I want to browse the web or do anything else.

I don't know about Lion, but Snow Leopard, no, there was no way to do this. You could increase the font for just about everything except the Apple Bar at top. Even then, this wasn't a universal setting, but try Universal Access in the system preferences and see if that can adjust the size.
