This may have been confirmed since I did this upgrade back in January (I couldn't find the info when I initially researched the upgrade). But here is a video confirming:

The Radeon 5770 does work in a Mac Pro 1,1
Dual Radeon 5770s can be installed in a Mac Pro 1,1
You can run three DVI displays on a single Radeon 5770
Dual-Link Active Adapters are not needed for three displays

Hy,
Sorry, if my english is bad... i try to find a answer, and in france no one have. I hope you'll can.
I have a Macpro 2006, 1,1.
I change graphic card (1900XT) for ATI radeon 5770.
I have 2 display, but just one works. Just on DVI.
I bought the minidisplay port (displayport to DVI), but no signal... The cable works, i test it whith macbook pro on display. It's ok !
I don't understand, everyone who makes this switch works whith many display.
Have you an idea ?

thanks

Did you buy a 5770 from Apple or from a PC manufacturer to flash? What resolution is the monitor? Are you using a dual-link DVI cable to connect?

What you need is a single link ACTIVE DP to DVI adapter, the one from Apple will not work the way you are trying to use it, it will work on a Mac Book Pro however.

Thanks,
I think it's a good answer.
I try to find a another cable, but i'll make more research because i'm sure to really understand.
for example, if i read apple FAQ, i found this :

9. What is the difference between an active adapter and a passive adapter?

An active adapter can convert a signal from one connector to another. The Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI and Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapters are active adapters. A passive adapter acts as a pass-through from one connector type to another and does not convert a signal. The Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter is an example of a passive adapter.

or i bought MDP to dvi. active ! no !?

No you bought a passive adapter, not active, you need active.

C'est bizarre j'ai une 5770 avec un écran en DVI et un autre avec ceci :
http://www.macway.com/fr/product/13880/adaptateur-mini-displayport-vers-dvi.html

Et ça marche ! Peut-être qu'il y a un problème avec ta carte ? Es-tu sûr de l'avoir bien installée ? Peut-être que tu devrais essayer de la sortir, et de la remettre bien dans le slot ?

In english: I am suggesting there could be a problem with the card or that he can try reseating it in the PCI slot ?

It's ok !!!!
Everything it's good ! it's works...

And it's works with 2 differents cable Minidisplayport to DVI :
the apple cable works.
the acell cable works.

I repeat :
I have Macpro 1.1, 2006, and 2 display with ATI RADEON HD 5770.

Thanks.

Comment avez-vous résolu le problème ?
Je viens d'installer une 5770 Apple dans un Macpro 1.1 et je suis dans la même situation que vous au départ.
Merci
