A defiant Steve Jobs lashed out for the first time publicly against activists who claim Apple Computer Inc. has irresponsible environmental policies for recycling products like old Macintoshes and iPods...

Dear Steve,

I think that it has been entirely to long since you went on a rampage.

Sincerely,

Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition

That sounds like some made up company on an X Files episode.

That group needs to get it's head out of it's A** and focus on the real problem. Educate the consumer level about recycling and proper disposal. If they expect Steve Jobs to personally go to everyones house and collect old computers and ipod batteries, then I can't respect them.

The reason for my opinion on this topic is simple, no corporation can monitor my garbage to monitor what I am throwing away, as it is my decision (incorrect, stupid or not) to take proper actions for disposal of waste.

Even with free recycle programs, people STILL throw aluminum cans in the regular trash, even with a FREE recycle bin sitting directly next to it.

Improper disposal of computer and electronic device waste is a consumer level issue, not corporate.

He seemed to be on form that day. I liked his jibes over the continued delays of Longhorn, charging that MS "can't even copy fast." :p

Hippies flaming hippies!!! Interesting. I think Dell is in the lead for being "environmentally friendly" as far as how easy it is to recycle their laptop batteries. I've never disposed of a Mac before, I've always given it away or sold it so it's their problem.

People continue using macs for so long, new ones won't be getting tossed for 10 years. We'll worry about it then :D !

Well, I just typed out my reply on a "Mr. T" Macintosh Plus with 1 MB of RAM, and used a floppy drive to copy it to my PowerMac so I could reply.

Twenty-something years old...:)

Environmentalists are pretty narrow-minded. I had the pleasure of staying a whole weekend with a crazy environmentalist while on a kayaking trip. It was oh so much fun!
