Hi guys! My first post on MacRumors and my first iMac purchase! All replies and advice are greatly appreciated.

I'm currently bummed on which machine I should purchase. I was planning to get a mini mac initially, but settled on iMac instead.

21.5" 2.5GHz SGD$1,648.00
2.5GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
1920 x 1080 resolution
4GB (two 2GB) memory
500GB hard drive1
AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 512MB

VS

21.5-inch: 2.7GHz SGD$2,048.00
2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 - Upgrade it to 2.8Ghz Quad Core i7?
1920 x 1080 resolution
4GB (two 2GB) memory
1TB hard drive1
AMD Radeon HD 6770M with 512MB

Notice the price is in SGD. Hmm... I'm hoping to upgrade the memory to 8GB at my local IT show.

Not too sure if I should to 2.8Ghz i7? If I were to get that upgrade it will cost an additional SGD$800 from the base of 21.5" 2.5GHz.

I'm mainly using this machine for photoshop, audio editting and light gaming. Hmmm...

How much audio editing and how heavy? Logic can take advantage of extra CPU power but it may not be worth it unless you do it professionally. The base should be plenty in any case.

The second offers better processing and graphical powers which would really speed up anything you do on photoshop/audio/gaming. So it would be a great investment since you would actually benefit from them. Later you can always install an SSD or go up to 16GB RAM and expand that suckers life to the very end!

whats SGD?

I have the first one. Photoshop is a cpu intensive program. But I'm not sure how core aware PS is. I doubt whether you really need the second, but once you put in another 12 gb ram, you would be amazed what you can do with it. I don't run Lion.... and won't until I either need it, or it gets up to 10.7.4 or .5.

The difference between the 2.5 and the 2.7 is not that much.
