I have just switched from Skype to iChat (using Jabber for Skype) and I have already run into a problem as a long time Skype user: I can't find the Chat protocol.
As soon as I close the current chat window and reopen it, all the text is erased and all I've got is a blank page. In Skype I could select how many days/weeks/months I want to go back.

Ain't this possible with iChat? All I have found is an iChat folder in documents with the chat protocols. But come on, I can't go in Finder from folder to folder with the different dates and hit space to view each day.

Is there no way to view the old chats within iChat?

Near the Pacific.
Yeah you just go to iChat>Preferences, then click the messages section, and look for the checkbox "Save chat transcripts to:". It should be checked and it will show where the chat logs are saved
