How big of a hard drive can my 2010 iMac handle?

I bought one with a 500GB drive when I bought my iMac last year. And now I'm thinking about sticking a 2TB drive in it (taking it to an authorized place if they can't do it at the Apple Store). Will it hold a 2TB or 3TB drive?

2TB definitely works. I have one in my 2009 24 and 2010 27.

Did you do it yourself? Is it hard to do?

a 2TB BTO option from Apple was available (I have that one). As to doing-it-yourself, here's a pretty good step-by-step with photos: http://gigaom.com/apple/how-to-replace-your-imacs-hard-drive/

The 24" wasn't too bad. Just take it slow. The 27" I read so many people breaking stuff I paid an Apple authorized service ctr $85.
