You could master something new or uncover a hidden talent. There's never been a better time to learn. As usual, Apple focuses their iPad ads on user experience.

You know what? I've really been wanting an iPad since March 2010. Every time I go to an Apple store, I get ready to pull the trigger but end up leaving empty handed. I already have my MBP and iPhone 4, so I really didn't need an iPad. But ever since HP had that Touchpad fire sale, I really started thinking about getting a tablet. At $99, the Touchpad was a steal.

Sadly, I didn't get one. :(

Just now, this commercial pushed me enough to actually go buy one ... a reurb one. Gotta save some money for that iPad 3! :D

Anyone recognize the chinese/japanese app?

In Japanese/Chinese it means Friend.

In Japanese at least, the character alone is read as "Tomo" or "Yuu". Usually used along ”達" which reads "Tomodachi".

FYI: You can buy an Apple iPad in the parking lot for $300 that will work just as well as that Touchpad. Just don't remove the bubble wrap until you get home or you'll spoil the surprise. ;)

I bought one in the parking lot three months ago and have yet to unwrap the bubbles. In fact, I am starting to enjoy looking at bubbles. Maybe I'll just see it as is and put the thing on display. It might be the best $300 I've ever spent.

Interesting. Samsung, HTC or Motorola tries to make you want to buy their tablet. Apple makes you want to an iPad to use great software.

I keep seeing these ads and i'm just aching to get one. I love the iPad 2 but my head is saying wait.

My 17 month old is getting really savvy with my iPhone to the point i think he's going to accidently call someone.

I'll definitely invest in the iPad 3 if i don't buckle in the mean time. :D

Anyone with kids needs to get "Nighty Night!" app. My little boy is obsessed.

I agree. From a strict advertising point of view, it's fascinating that the narrator didn't say the name "iPad" once. He especially didn't say "dual core", "gigabyte", "screen", "port", or any other really specific detail.

It's not about the "organic" nature of the screen, or how many ports it has, or how tweakable the home screen is. It's all about what the device lets you do. That's the big thing that Android folks are completely missing the point on.

Could the first post get a list of the apps used, it's 50% of this thread's request what the apps are, and it's a guessing game. I am not buying all the apps just to find out they're the sh* recommendations rather than the right ones.

Much appreciated.

Funny! This reminds me of the great gift scene (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHYF92anQfw) in Splash (1984) with Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah.

I love Hannah's line at 1:15 into that clip where she joyfully asks, "There's more?"

Keep it classy, Apple. Some may deride it as cheesy, but at least it is classy and restrained. Plus, it shows you what the product does! wow!

I'll take this over robot coliseums, glowing red eyes, and other Terminator-related images.

I'm trying to figure this out too; looking at the Skeleton System Pro II app in the App Store, the screen icons are the same as shown in the iPad advertisement.

I agree about Skeleton System Pro II - it matches the screen shots in the App Store. However, the Solar System for iPad does not appear to; the app Solar Walk has screen shots in the App Store that appear to match the advertisement.

Anybody know what the name of that planet app and math app is?

The math app is either Mathboard or Mathboard Addition, both put out by palaware.

I just installed the free Mathboard Addition - it's a limited version of Mathboard, providing only addition whereas the full version (Mathboard) "will give you access to subtraction, multiplication, division, squares, cubes, and square roots."

they should probably have the name of the app during the commercial...then again that would be distracting and take up space, not to mention this way will make some people have to browse through the app store, the old bait and more bait :p

Interesting. Samsung, HTC or Motorola tries to make you want to buy their tablet. Apple makes you want to an iPad to use great software.

You comment made me remember a recent pointless ad from Microsoft about their non-existent tablet. The father is trying to figure out how to do something with the tablet when the wife calls out from elsewhere in the house asking if he's keeping an eye on the kid. He looks up to see the youngster has scribbled all over the walls with a marker while he was lost in the non-user experience. His response was to hand the kid the fat-as-hell tablet and stylus to keep her busy scribbling while he checks out the extent of her graffiti damage.

It left me wondering...what's the point...?

Samsung, HTC and Motorola et al, have no unique software of their own to separate themselves from each other. All they can try and do is try to separate themselves from Apple with unimpressive specifications like running battery-draining "Flash," or battery and CPU-sucking "true" multi-tasking.

The beauty of the iPad (and iPhone and iPod Touch) is that the hardware is the lesser part of the equation when it comes to to which to buy. The most important part is knowing that "there's an App for that." It's the ecosystem of the App Store and the iCloud, and how all the iDevices sync together with their PC or Mac. That's where Apple is knocking everyone else dead.

When is the last time they've done a Mac ad?

Do you mean a "Desktop" Mac ad, instead of a mobility Mac ad? First, nobody advertises a desktop computer any more on TV. Of their Mac line, Apple advertises their MBA only. It's where they are practically unique in laptops and have the greatest Mac sales.

Welcome to the post-PC world. :)

Why do these iPad ads always have the same tune?

It's how good advertisers signal the listener that an Apple ad is playing. They use the same narrator for the same reason. Even if you were making love to wife with the TV on, you'd stop to watch the commercial. ;)

I agree. From a strict advertising point of view, it's fascinating that the narrator didn't say the name "iPad" once. He especially didn't say "dual core", "gigabyte", "screen", "port", or any other really specific detail.

+1000 internets to you! Apple ads trust that the viewer is smart enough to get the message of joyful utility. The human animal is a curious creature and the iPad will help you sate your desire without getting in the way.

Love it

Also love my ipad. the app store is amazing

Because you wrote THAT in THIS thread, means you "got the message" of Apple's ad perfectly. I think that Apple's sales are indicative of how easy the ad message is to "get."
