MBP 2011 15" 2.0 with Crucial M4 results

He guys,

just want to share my benchmark results of the Crucial together with my macbook pro, putting it in the MBP was pretty easy although I was a bit disappointed about the results...

is the drive ok? and will it be a little faster if I enable TRIM?
 
Somethings wrong with something (I know that's super specific, but I don't know any further than that). Those are low write speeds, here's my Vertex 3 hooked up through SATA2:

And from my understanding, TRIM won't make the drive any faster, it will just keep it from slowing down. I actually think some people say that enabling it slows down your speeds.

Disappointed? What exactly is it that you do that you will notice the difference in read speed from 426 MB/s to 510 MB/s? Are you a cyborg that can read 1,000,000 pages of text per second and you can't lose any nano seconds of your existence?

I think he's just worried because the results he's getting are different than the advertised results of the solid state he bought. It's natural. But I understand your viewpoint totally, really.

There's nothing wrong with the drive, just go about your business and don't worry about it until you start to see data corruption and stuff... then you should start worrying.

If you wanna enable trim, try this.

I can understand that im not getting the advertised speeds, but I think the write speeds are pretty low if you compare them to some of the posts above...😎

I have firmware 002, 009 is newer?

009 is newer, faster, and recommended.
 
Now got firmware 0009, little bit better... but still not enough I think. Maybe it is due to the amount of data whats on the drive, got 10Gb left...

Having little space left on the drive could definitely cause a write performance problem. Especially if you have neither garbage collection nor TRIM.
 
I've ordered the M4 512 GB SSD and I'm hoping I'll have it today! I can't wait to see what this baby can do.
 
Also the crucial M4 uses a Marvell Controller so the Write Speeds won't be high like you get with Sandforce Controllers. But unlike with Sandforce controllers the write speed will stay relatively the same even if you hard drive is full.

I've gone for the samsung 470, overall reliability, garbage collection & seems to be the most commonly recommended on here. If the SATA III drives become more consistently reliable, I'll upgrade as & when.

What size drive do you have? only the 256 and 512GB models have the sort of write speeds you are expecting. I get 260MB/sec write and 511MB/sec read from my M4 running the 009 firmware.
