I got a promotional copy of 'With Teeth' from a friend at a record company a few weeks ago, not a bad album, but not a brilliant one either... thing is Trent's never going to shake the world up with anything even vaguely edgy, the word that springs to mind with 'With Teeth' is... safe. Sadly.

Cool, thanks for the link PlaceofDis.

I've only heard the single so far, and it's a bit disappointing, IMO. Not really bad, but like iGav said, safe. But I'm most likely still going to pick it up the day it comes out.

before this i had heard the first thing and i got The Line Begins To Blur from the iTMS as well, ive listened through the album once already, going though it again, and i must say that i like it a lot. its not the fragile and its not the downward spiral, but something totally different. its still better than most of the crap thats out there these days

I'm looking forward to hearing the whole thing (the stream was a bit jumpy for me). The Fragile was such a departure from the heavy industrial of The Downward Spiral & PHM that I wondered what the next album would be like. Although I seem to be in the minority I think the Fragile is an awesome album.

Which is exactly why I have no qualms about picking it up the day it comes out.

the stream works well sometimes, i guess it depends upon the load, i loved the Fragile myself, and Still in my opinion was just amazing....i still listen to both of those or at least some songs from 'em each day. i will be picking up With Teeth next week for sure, i will love being able to crank the stereo up for it, now only if i had 5.1 sound

I think it sounds like a juxtaposition of Broken, Fixed and The Downward Spiral to be honest... it sounds exactly like Nine Inch Nails. :p

Appropriately, the only track which will stay on my HD is track 8; 'only'. The 'only' track with reasonable programming which isn't sickeningly poppy, and even this is still spoiled by him opening his bloody mouth. Should have been an instrumental. And what's up with the super-distorted bass throughout? Christ... leave it to Mudvayne, or Slipknot, or whatever the kids like nowadays.

It's the drugs, man. Someone please get him high, ever since it's been straight edge, he's been a whiny p***y.

i've been listening to it for about a week now and i've been really enjoying it. the first time i heard the first track i just about fell over at how different it was. Trent hitting high notes? the live drums from Dave Grohl really help this album shine as well. it's great to see Trent move on with his life and get clean and grow up. i give this album a 8.2 out of 10. my favorite NIN album thus far has to still be Fragile. (i have no idea what people have against it, it's amazing!) plus, Trent says he's gonna break the 5 year cycle between releases since he's got another album that should be released this fall or something... can't wait.

...(i have no idea what people have against it, it's amazing!)...

I think a lot of has to do w/the fact that people tend to like a band's sound, more than they like the band. By that I mean they expect NIN, for example, to always have a hard, edgy industrial sound. And when The Fragile came out a lot of people were like "WTF, this isn't the NIN *I* want to hear. Therefore this sux" and never even gave the album a chance (even though it is f'in' brilliant, IMO). I was a bit like WTF the first time I heard it because it wasn't what I expected at all. But I came back to it a few days later, open minded (no more expectations, I'll just take what the music gives) and was completely blown away.

I've stopped listening to some bands when they've changed directions, but I try to keep clear of the "band X doesn't play the music I think they should play so they suck" mindset. Music can still be good even if you personally don't like it. I try to keep an open mind though and not impose my limitations and personal tastes on the artists I listen to. I'd rather see an artist trying some new and come out w/something so-so than have them keep churning out the same stuff over and over again (even awesome stuff gets boring after awhile).

nothing will ever sound like his old albums, the man has grown and changed, and i think he had done a great jot at it too. The Fragile was stunning and beautiful. With Teeth has a good sound to it in my opinion, but the lyrics could use some work. i'm just glad to hear that he has materal left over from this album and that another release shouldn't take ages
