Hi everyone. I'm using OS X 10.7.1 on a new MBA. I've been trying to download drivers for printers that I use, but I'm a bit shocked at how large the files are. For example, the Xerox Phaser 4510 drivers (http://www.support.xerox.com/support/phaser-4510/downloads/enus.html?operatingSystem=macosx): the OS X 10.6 driver is 11 MB, while the OS X 10.7 driver is 109 MB.

Similarly, the Xerox ColorQube 8570 (http://www.support.xerox.com/support/colorqube-8570/downloads/enus.html?operatingSystem=macosx) drivers are also very large, over 70 MB.

Is this normal, or is Xerox bundling several printer drivers into one download? Is it possible to download only the specific driver which I will be using?

Thanks!

I have no explanation for these file sizes. I have a Xerox Phaser 8550DP. Its driver for MacOS X 10.5 is 2.7 MB; for MacOS X 10.6, 13.2 MB; and for MacOS X 10.7, 109.4 MB. I believe that each of these packages contain drivers for all of Xerox's printers at the time of the package's release. That said, there is a 30-fold increase in file size between MacOS X 10.5 and MacOS X 10.7. However, Xerox has not had a 30-fold increase in the number of its printers. When you consider the fact that these are largely PostScript printers which rely on the built-in MacOS X print driver coupled with printer-specific PPD files, it is a puzzlement.
