Im a little curious to where iDVD and iWeb have gone to now I've purchased a MBA 2011. On my 2009 MBP it had them with the original iLife 09 and when i upgraded to iLife 11 it still had them; but I can't see them on my new mac and you can't get them from the AppStore

I don't really use them just more curious how to get them. Can i use the iLife 11 install and just install the missing iDVD & iWeb products?

Cheers

They've both been end-of-lifed (EOL) and are no longer included or available for purchase.

If you still have them on the iLife '11 DVD, I believe you can install them that way.

I just copied mine over from my MBP. Took ages to work out where to put / save the iWeb files though :-S

Ah okay, all makes sense. I guess a lot of people were using more specialist programs like Dreamweaver

I'll do like you suggest erasr and just copy the Apps of the Pro

So what about the "Share --> iDVD" option in iMovie?

http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2119

Create a DVD

In iMovie, open a project or select it in the Project Library (by clicking its name once), and then choose Share > iDVD.

The Share menu appears in a light gray bar across the top of your computer screen.

iMovie generates a finished version of your project and sends it to iDVD (another application in the iLife suite).

iDVD opens with your movie in a new iDVD project, which you can burn to a DVD immediately.

For instructions about how to burn a DVD, choose Help > iDVD Help when the iDVD application is open. The Help menu appears in a gray bar at the top of your computer screen.

Seems Apple has missed a key feature here and hasn't re-written portions of the remaining iLife apps to compensate for the missing iDVD.

I can sort of understand iWeb missing with the upcoming iCloud integration but this change is not only frustrating for those who still expect iDVD to be included with a new Mac, but sloppy implementation of a software bundle change.

Apple still refers to iLife in it's Specs for the new models, but there is no mention of iDVD on the iLife pages which at least up to July this year still included the text:

iLife ’11 also includes iWeb and iDVD for creating instant websites or your own straight-to-DVD classic.

The iDVD page is still there, but now, nothing links to it from the main iLife page.

The previous page DOES include a MacAppStore link:

http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewRoom?fcId=412903230&mt=12&id=29520

But is seems to be no longer available?

It's not a free solution, but note that MacUpdate Promo deal right now includes Roxio Toast, which burns DVDs, as well as a bazillion other apps. If you need a few of the apps, it's a good deal and might solve the iDVD issue.

I hear RapidWeaver is pretty good too for web editing and doesn't require you to be an expert.

My advice is not to get into using programs that have already been marked for death. All the time you spend figuring things out and learning your way around them is completely wasted rather than invested as it would be with a program that has a future.

Still on the AppleStore too, and still notes iWeb & iDVD included:

Not that I've used recent versions of Toast, but iDVD was more flexible in it's menu creation and integration with iMovie.

EDIT: I realize that iDVD hasn't been updated/enhanced for a long time, but to suddenly remove it from the bundled iLife without a bundled replacement or rewriting other Apps to compensate is pretty underhanded.
