5.1 Surround Sound on MacBook Air 2011????

I checked and found that this topic was not yet discussed. Could you, the tech savvys, help me out?

I have:
MBA 2011
Yamaha TSS-15 Home Theater 5.1 Surround Sound
Connecting using some cable from headphone out to the red and white port on the back of Yamaha amp.

Problem:
I am getting only 3.1 sound now ie, front left & right, center speakers and woofer are working. Back L&R are not throwing the surround effect.

Doesn't the latest MBA support 5.1 SS?

Get a USB DAC/Sound card that supports 5.1 surround sound..

I've also got a question about this.

Does the DisplayPort/Thunderbolt port support 5.1 through an HDMI adaptor?
And is the headphone socket also an optical TOSLINK socket?

Yes to the 5.1 over HDMI. No, it's not a combo Analog/Digital jack.
