Computer doesn't recognise USB's until replugged in.

Hey, having a little trouble with a late 2009 Mac Mini (2.53Ghz Core 2 Duo 4Gb RAM). For some reason if I plug something into a USB socket the Mac doesn't recognise it until I unplug and put it in again. I have no idea why this is happening and its starting to get a little annoying ಠ_ಠ Any help would be appreciated.
