Upgrade from 128GB to SamSung 256GB in 2011 13" Base?

Hi,

Looking to upgrade my 128GB to Samsung 256GB in my 2011 13" base.


Checking in ebay, showed this one:

256GB Samsung Newest 2.5in 470 Series SSD MZ7 OEM | eBay

Is it simple task to swap the drives? The big question.. Does it work or it has to be ONLY Apple OEM version? Since Apple is all about proprietary stuff!

Won't fit. Apple uses a "blade" style SSD, not a 2.5" laptop style. See https://www.macrumors.com/2011/07/2...modular-solid-state-drive-on-new-macbook-air/

Doesn't have to be OEM, some aftermarket companies offer them. They can't be in an enclosure though, they look like this.

Well, if yours is MBP, it can but MBA cannot. MBA is 1.8" but that SSD is for 2.5".

Let's try OWC but quite costly.🙂

But for the price I'm seeing the 256GB Samsungs going for, you might be better off buying one from OWC (Link). They cost a little bit more ($30 or so) and have a little bit less space (240 vs 256 due to provisioning/extra cells), but they are way faster. And they're new, so they're pretty much guaranteed to work.

Not 1.8" for MBA

The first MBA was 1.8", 2010 and 2011 MBA use only "Blade" SSDs.
