So, I finally went out and bought a G5!! I got a sweet deal on a dual 2.5Ghz - they knocked $1000 off!! Added some ram, airport extreme and a bluetooth dongle and I am in heaven.

Seriously, if anyone is considering buying a G5 - hunt around now for a bargain. The speed of this machine is unbelievable - makes my PowerBook feel like a slug!!

If you look over to the south east a couple of thousand kilometres you'll see an incredibly enviously green mad jew! I'm glad someone's content with the speed of the PowerMacs, even if they aren't at 3.0GHz.

Enjoy. :)

Wow! That is great!

Which dealer did you get it from, and how much did you end up paying?

Seems like a real sweet deal man :D

Regarding where I got it from - I'd rather keep that to myself at the moment ;) - it was totally legit, with reciept etc but I essentially got it for cost price.

The price for dual 2.5's in Australia is now $4299 from $4899. I do know there are a few still floating around at Domayne stores - Alexandria in particular . $4299 is a price set by Apple - I rang around some AppleCentres and they were offering it for the same price. When you consider that the new 2.0GHhz is priced at $3999, and can only take 4 Gb of ram (I don't know why they did this??? ) the extra few hundred bucks would make it worthwhile getting an old 2.5. Fair enough, the hard drives are bigger and there is a dual layer superdrive, but for a home user, these things are not that crucial.

So, after weighing up these differences (it took all of 5 mins... :p) out came the Visa.

If you want a bargain - try and buy one of the older models now - they will not be here forever.

Southeast of Sydney would surely either put you in the ocean or in NZ, yet your Location field says Australia

Yeah -that would put him in the ocean alright!! Maybe he has a secret base out there with Tiger - like out of the James Bond film :p.

Nah - really, he may have got the compass wrong - it could have been south west - that would put him in South Australia - about 2000 k from here.

Some of you people read what I say far too closely. ;) I'm an Aussie who's in NZ (Auckland) for a couple of days on a conference. It's my first visit and I've gotta say I'm very impressed. I only wish I had more time to spend here seeing the sites.

I'm going to Sydney in June, just for a week or so. What part of Australia are you from?

Well, someone kind of guessed it before. I'm from South Australia, which is kind of embarrassing... But at least we make great wine! I spend far too much time in Sydney though. It's a great city, you should have heaps of fun.

I feel like I shouldn't even be looking at this thread. I'm from Idaho. No, You da ho. Ehh...I hate that saying. Everytime I tell someone where I'm from they say that like it's the first time it's come into the human thought process. Lame.

If you run SETI from the command line interface your unit times will go down to about 2.5 hours (I'm pretty sure).
