Hey guys, I've recently acquired another iMac G3. I've decided to let it be the 'kid computer' for when people hang out at my house and bring children. Do any of you know of any Freeware games that can run on Mac OS 10.1-10.4?

If there aren't many (or any) good freeware games, can you give me some ideas to what I should buy? I'd be willing to spend $5-10 per game, and I'd buy 2-4 games.

Thanks!

try Macintosh Garden (http://www.macintoshgarden.org/) all abandonware ..means free ;)

most will run on OS9 and /or OSX
if you got both then all games there will work great fun not only for kids ;)

You could probably get better games by downgrading to Mac OS9, then getting tons of cool and free games off the Mac Garden (as the guy above said). Because the Mac Garden only has games for the classic systems (mostly). And the comp you have won't run modern games, so downgrading is your best bet.

Older games keep you entertained for longer too, because they're harder. Games these days are just too easy :p

I agree, putting it on OS 9 opens up alot more opportunities than keeping it on X. Some games won't run properly if at all in Classic Environment like Carmageddon (not a kids game).

As for good kids games on MacGarden theres: DinoPark Tycoon, Oregon Trail, Lemmings, Crystal Crazy, various ISpys, and a bunch more.

I have the OS9 Installation CD that came with the iMac. Can I dual boot Mac OS 9 and OSX on the PPC? I know you can on Intel, and it may seem a dumb question, but I don't know how these 'old' things worked :)

Yea you can totally dual boot, it's been a while but I believe all you gotta do is set up a partition and install OS X on there. In System preferences you can select which partition you want to boot from or hold down the Command key during startup.

Yeah but you'll need to partition the hard disk, meaning formatting it, which wipes everything clean off it. Dual boot is a good idea: OSX for web browsing and word processing, and OS9 for games ;)

I would keep OS X on and use Classic Environment.... Tiger is light years ahead of OS 9.

Some cheap games that will run OK on it:
Unreal Tournament
Quake 1-3

Might be a bit late but,

Try the sims. I used to love building houses on it and it's a lot more child freindly than 2 and 3. (no sex as far as I'm aware)
