My mum's CRT monitor just died so she needs a new monitor. But instead im going to give her my CRT 17" monitor and get a new 17" LCD for myself. I read through a few posts and everyone seems to recommend the Dell LCDs for price and value. I can't decide which one to get though. Its for my PC but I will probably also use it with my PB. Which do you think I should go with? I can probably afford to pay up to $500AUD. "What am you going to use it for?" I dunno everything! Though Im not a gamer (though I could become one in the future :))

I know you will all say "Do your self a favour and buy a 20"". I would if I could but I just cant afford it.

Which 17" should I go with? I dont know much about monitors.

Thanks very very much in advance,
inlimbo...

Another vote for the 1704FPT, looks like a good monitor at a good price. It is just the smaller version of the 2001FP (which I own and enjoy) with better crystal response since it is smaller.

Should be a fine monitor for general usage, and most games should be just fine too at 12ms response (I see few to zero issues and the 2001 has 16ms response).

make sure you dont get a vga lcd, they suck.

What's wrong with VGA LCDs? All the reviews I look at say there's not much difference in image quality.

yeah reviews written by blind people, vga lcd's are fuzzy and the pixels leak into each other.

I know you will all say "Do your self a favour and buy a 20"". I would if I could but I just cant afford it.

Well i'm gonna do it anyway since the 20inch is only 24 bucks out of your price limit... your mom might pay you 30 bucks for the CRT (24 + few bucks shipping)

& according to some people, it can be found for $350 bucks if you look hard for a sale (but seeing as you want one quickly, you'll probibly have to shell out $524 bucks... id look into your mom paying you some money for the CRT :)

Find coupons. You should be able to get it for cheaper.

Try TechBargains, and don't forget to search the forums.

Anti-glare is just a coating on the lcd.

andrebsd - Seems like a great deal however a little out of the OT's pricerange if he is truly limited to $500AUD, assuming barney has the pricing of the 20" correct (which I am assuming as I am far to lazy to go verify it myself).

Thanks...Mmmm. I am torn. A 23" would give me HD but its $500+ more....and a G4 wont really cope with H264 HD anyway...20" might be the way to go as prices drop...
