Someone gave me a G3 Blue & White. It only has a cd rom. Do I have to put a DVD drive in the computer or can I use an external dvd player and if I can use an external dvd player, can I play video games on it?

I don't see why not. Though unless you have USB 2.0 on it, you probably won't get amazing quality for games cause you couldn't access the disk fast enough.

In your head.
If you can load OS 10.x, I might suggest going with a firewire card and an external drive. Mac compatible stand-alone DVD ROMS and RAM drives can be found for not to much more than bay installable. By not much money mean 20-50 $ U.S (only 50$, on the other hand 50% more)., But really, the investment can be transported laterally. Lacie.com sometimes has reconditioned firewire400 and 800 optical drives. Unless the bus speed of the G3 is enhanced, 400 may even be overkill.

Perhaps FastMac has some dvd drives.

In the end it may be a Pyrrhic victory.
