Been doing a lot of video encoding lately, so much so that I think I'm going to make the leap to a monster dual machine. So, interesting in letting this gem go.

NOTE: This is a Rev A single processor PM G5 1.8 GHz machine. It was bought, new in October 2004 and is still under warranty. Meaning, you can add Apple Care still. (Local shop still had them new and boxed up!) This machine has seen a lot of World of Warcraft playing as well. ;)

Specs for the curious:

G5 SP 1.8 GHz PowerPC processor
900 MHz frontside bus speed (Rev A)
2.5 GB DDR SDRAM (2x1GB+2x256MB) (8 total slots available, supports 8 GB max)
160 GB SATA drive, 7200 RPM
4x SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW)
Three open full-length PCI-X slots: one 133MHz, 64-bit slot and two 100MHz, 64-bit slots
10/100/1000BASE-T internal Ethernet
56K V.92 internal modem
ATI 9600 video card or nVIDIA 5200 video card (see below)
Tiger 10.4 Retail Package
iLife 05 Retail Package
Panther 10.3 PM restore discs
Apple keyboard
Apple mouse (unused)
Complete packaging materials (box, manuals, etc)

A similiarly-equipped machine bought today from the Apple Store would be over $2,300 w/ that software, just over $2,000 w/ EDU discount. Looking for $1,700 OBO. Pictures of anything you'd like to see availabe on request. Drop the ATI card and remove $100 from the price of the system. Removing Tiger/iLife possible, but not preferred.

I will pay shipping within the US. Also, I work for a major company within the US and can provide references. There's a chance a local branch is near a major city near you, meaning you can verify my name, address, employement information, etc with confidence. I can have an employee at your location handle the transaction.

Please PM me with inquiries or post here with questions.

Any errors on my part are accidential and I'll fix post-haste! :D

Hi
This is a system to grab. Much better overall than the current model Apple offers. Apple cripples their low end config(s). Mine is the rev. A and it has quite some horsepower. I purchased mine about 4 months ago for $1,4xx used off eBay but in good condition in stock config.

A few corrections/comments to help people out.
8x SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW)
Did you upgrade this? If you did, is it a drive that is natively supported or does it require PatchBurn? The stock is actually a 4x SuperDrive. Mine is the Sony DW-U10A. Specs for the Sony are...

DVD-R: 4x
DVD-RW: 2x
DVD+R: 4x
DVD+RW: 2x
DVD-ROM: 8x
CD-R: 24x
CD-RW: 10x
CD-ROM: 32x

8MB Buffer and Burn Underrun Protection

2.5 GB DDR SDRAM (2x1GB+2x512MB)
Did you mean 2x1GB+2x256MB? 2x256MB (a.k.a. 512MB) is the stock config.

MacCheetah3, thank you for the catches! I composed this at work (on a PC) so did from memory. I have corrected the original post.

Regarding the other post, yes, I'm looking to upgrade. Been doing a lot of video/DVD encoding lately. This is a great machine. I'm very happy with it, but with that said, needed some more power. It's a very powerful machine.

Lowered the price to $1,700 -- did some more research and that seems like a better (fair) price.

Again, worth highlighting: includes Tiger (retail), iLife 05 (retail), and still has warranty.

FYI, after this week I intend to sell the unit on eBay. I'd rather make sure a MacRumors member gets it.

Please send a PM with any questions/offers. Thanks! :)

Thanks to those that inquired on the unit. However, the unit is still available and I'm going to take this off to eBay later this evening. :(

With that said, if anyone want to shoot me a PM or make an offer, there's still time.

Thanks!

I've reached an agreement with a MR user, although that transaction hasn't been finalized yet.

In the meantime, if anyone has any questions I'd be happy to answer them, in the event we can't finalize the deal.

Thank you everyone for your interest! :)

Sadly, the original transaction fell through so the unit is, indeed, still available. :( I've sent PMs to those that have inquired, indicating that the machine is available again.

Who knew that selling was such hard work? ;)
