Blueroom, have you seen situations where 16:9 content is displayed in squeezed 4:3 aspect ratio with black bars on the sides? More often than not, this is the case on my iPad and iPhone (IOS 5.0 and 5.01)

Sometimes ffmpeg fails to automatically detect the AR of video stream. This is a bug and it will be fixed.

Thanks. Works better than the beta, though still have some quirks and tellyffmpeg.exe crashing with exceptions. Do you monitor your support email address?

In our testing, this type of crash is usually caused by weak/unstable TV signal.

In our testing, we also found one or two channels (SD channels from nbc and fox) with wrong aspect ratio. We will make a per-channel setting so user can force the aspect ratio when automatic detection fails. We also made this a high priority feature which will be delivered mid Jan-early Feb 2011.

I've also seen cases where HD channels get squeezed horizontally - not 4:3 or 16:9 AR.
Looking forward to an update, also for tellyserver and tellyffmpeg to be more resilient and recover from errors.
Please consider displaying a failure cause on the iPad app when something doesn't work or goes wrong.
Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback. a newer ffmpeg.exe will be included in next version(1.2.0). Hope this will fix some of the unexpected crashes.
version 1.2.0 should be available as soon as the app review is completed.

Awesome app! Do you think it'd be plausible to eventually support the hdhomerun prime and cable card channels that are in the clear?

copy-free channels might already be supported. Such channel will be treated as regular clearQAM channel.

It doesn't see my hdhomerun prime for me to even be able to test.

You need a Windows PC to do transcoding.

----------

What would it take to stream directly from an HDHomeRun? No PC running. Does the iPad2 have the oomph to directly display MPEG-2?

Performance and network speed issue. iPad2 has a limit of 12Mbps on WiFi-N while HDTV requires 20Mbps

iPad3 might have this limitation as well.

Telly 1.4 has been released

New features includes Windows 7 Media Center TV Guide support.
On a Windows 7 PC with Media Center setup property, TellyServer is now able to
import TV guide information directly from Media Center for more complete and detailed TV
guide. You can also schedule a time to let TellyServer automatically import
TV guide. Previous method of parsing PSIP/EIT is still available on
Windows XP and Windows Vista. Note that Media Center 7 is available with Windows
7 Home Premium and up.

Change Log:
- New: Improved with a much more completed and detailed TV guide (Windows Media Center 7 required)
- New: Manual or automatic import guide data from WMC7
- New: Improved TellyServer setup page with a cleaner UI
- New: Show current problem during program loading
- Misc: Improved iPhone/iPad UI responsiveness
- Misc: Disable collecting OTA EPG by default
- Fix: Unable to stream when user has non-standard profile path
- Fix: Incomplete Windows Firewall rule
