I just watched the CNBC video on Apple's site, saved to disk, opened in Quicktime and looked at the movie info and it says it's in 3ivx codec. WTF?

Why wouldn't Apple post this in H.264? Or does 3ivx really mean H.264????

It's MPEG4. It just shows up as 3vix because that's what's being used to decode the video.

All those video codecs is just annoying and silly.

DivX, XviD, 3ivX, and every letter of the alphabet coupled with a -ivX. 🙄

I removed 3ivx some time ago. The CNBC report shows up on my computer as H.264.

Correction: I still have 3ivx, DivX, and Xvid codecs installed. Still the CNBC report indicates that it is H.264.

Why is this H.264 movie so smooth and the movie trailers Apple posted so choppy?
Because your computer sucks.

sorry, that's the best way I could put it. 😛

Because this clip is not HD. HD requires far more processing power to decode.

Ah. That explains everything. Better than this response:
