So, I used to use my desktop Windows PC to sync my iPhone. I switched to using my MBP months ago. Moved all my media over, and I sync music/videos/books/photos with the MBP.

However, I never sync'd apps, because I didn't want it to wipe out my app library.

If I update to iOS 5, my applications will be erased, because I don't sync my iPhone's apps with any computers.

If I set my iPhone to sync apps with my MBP, my applications will be erased.

What do I do here?

Looks like Transfer Purchases brought the apps over, but their sizes are too small; no way it brought the data over...

Did you make a backup?

Can you not re-download the purchased apps from itunes? Then re-sync your phone with the new machine.

Simply "Right Click" on your iPhone in iTunes, and select "Back Up". That should back up all app data, mail/contacts/calendar settings, and stored passwords.

Just update everything and use iCloud to redownload your stuff afterwards. ie. purchase history :)

Yes.

If I transfer purchases, update to iOS 5, then enable Syncing Apps on this new MBP, then restore from a backup to get the app data tacked on...will this do it?

My concern is primarily app data. Savegames, stored data in special tracking apps, recorded audio, etc.
