Gained space after ios5 upgrade?

Just a weird question. After i upgraded my phone to iOS 5 i noticed something odd. My apps used to take up about 7GB when i was on 4.2.10. After upgrading to iOS 5 they only take up about 5GB. I gained 2GB. But why? ahahhaha. All my apps are still checked to sync. So i don't have any less apps. And it seems with the apps that I've checked on the device all the settings in the apps are still the same. Im just confused. What would cause this? Thanks
