Where did my contacts go?

All my contacts disappeared from my contacts app. They still are recognized by the phone when I receive a text from one of them, ie instead of it saying I got a text from 555-1234, it still says from "John Doe". I know this probably has something to do with iCloud, but all my contacts are correctly in my Mac's address book app and iCloud is set to sync contacts.

What's the deal?

EDIT: QUIT AND RESTARTED CONTACTS APP AND EVERYTHING APPEARED.
