Hi guys,

I want to download iOS 5. The download isn't automatically prompted for me when I open iTunes, so instead, I click "CHECK FOR UPDATE" in the "iPhone" section of iTunes. However, whenever I click it, a message appears that says "The version of the iPhone software (4.2.1) is the current version."

I have an iphone 3GS.

Any suggestions? :/

You need a 3GS or 4 to update. A 3G (or older) will not accept the new IOS. Your sure it is a 3GS?

Otherwise, I wonder if you have to go to 4.3.5 first?

Also, do you have the latest itunes?

Look at the pictures of the phone back and confirm the type. If it is a 3G then it will not upgrade past 4.2.1.

A 3GS would have the memory amount listed on the back case under the words iPhone. If it is a 3GS it should upgrade.
