I was at best buy today playing around with a mac mini, and it seemed kind of sluggish. The mouse cursor would kind of be jerky every now and then and the dock was slugish and programs ran a little slow.

Is this normal mac mini behavior? Are they just lacking in performance?

When my mini is playing with ram allocation the dock hicks up sometimes, same with the mouse.
I have 512 Mb RAM and i usually make sure PS and iPhoto are not open while i surf, im, mail, and listen to tunes. This minimises the problem severely. 1 Gb of RAM would to i guess.
I still love it though and it does what i ask it to.

I guess Best Buy uses the standard 256 ram, and that is not enough for Panther not to mention Tiger.
Also keep in mind that every bozo that walks by plays with it and may change
some settings.
I have a mini 1.25 and it performs great.

my pb is slower for the most part compared to the mini, and my PB is never too sluggish. 2 years old and people are still pretty envious.

I have a iBook 1.33Ghz G4, 768MB of Ram and Radeon 9200.

Pretty much the same computer more of less that you do in the Mini. I think it runs silky smooth, except when I am doing something hard disk intensive. But I am hoping to change that with a faster Hard Drive. If It can last me until August 2006. I will be happy. I hope it can..... I see all these people with 1Ghz TiBooks and stuff still... so I think I can go another 15 months on this.....
