This is the first I've heard anything like that - if someone does indeed have some news on this please post a link! Not sure why Fox would do that due to the show's populartity and success right now...

So volume 3 on DVD is just half of season 4?
Being that new seasons normally start in September, I've heard that fox considers September to now season 5. So Vol 3 is all of season 4.

Depends if you go off tv.com or not. Technically, Peter's Got Woods was the first episode of Season 5, so according to that, the first 3 episodes of Season 5 are actually on the Volume 3 DVD set. TV.com still has everything listed as Season 4 though....

Didn't Family Guy restart halfway during last season so season 4 was half a season and season 5 started in September.

So tonight's episode was pretty good... they made fun of John Goodman's eating habits, Gene Shalit's awful puns during movie reviews, Adam West (singing his name over and over again), and The Empire Strikes Back.
Loved this bit (while they are singing at the end):
Brian: "I love the work of Allen Funt!"
Stewie: "And a nicely shaven leg!"
:D

BlessI know that sometimes they've actually gotten the help of those they're making fun of... for example, the time Lois praised Peter for his use of topical humor like on Murphy Brown, and then they cut to a vignette of Murphy Brown complete with the actual voices of Candice Bergen, Faith Ford, Joe Regalbuto, and Charles Kimbrough. And of course they have Adam West playing himself as a bit of a weirdo as the mayor of Quahog.
I don't think that was John Goodman's voice, though.

I think they've gone too far. Family Guy has always pushed the envelope, but Stewie (twice) savagely beating Brian for extended periods was too much for me. They're trying so hard for that shock value that they've really crossed a line.
oh, and that song sequence on the football field? about 5x too long.

Not that there weren't funny parts, but they were subtle(r).
The parts quoted (above) had all the subtlety of a sledgehammer.

Only when it works. ;) Always seem to have issues with it in FireFox. Plus it's too cluttered now.
Anyone else notice that Simpsons did a really long sequence with Flanders singing? Family Guy influence maybe? Pretty funny considering just a few weeks ago they were making fun of Peter being so similar to Homer and American Dad being like a rip off of FG. Just thought it was funny.

I know I know, seth macfarlane is from the area ... I guarantee he's a pats fan ... as I was saying ... he took his opportunity to hang out with his favorite sports star ( I don't blame him ... I'd figure out how to incorporate urlacher into one of my episodes or perhaps Mark Prior) ... the episode was alright (better than your average show anywhere else) and I highlighted what I liked ... but it wasn't as well rounded as we've seen them.

Anyone get the "Better Off Dead" reference when they were "Maid Racing"?? That whole scene with the Asian announcers was a parody of a scene in that movie where the main character played by John Cusack was constantly being challenged to a race by two Asian brothers that learned to speak English by watching the late Howard Cosell. A very, very funny scene in the movie, which by the way is extremely funny and contains a great claymation video for the Van Halen classic "Everybody Wants Some!!".

Actually, I think one of them likes it. It's the other that doesn't, and like grapes said, they don't like being compared. Look at the joke about how Kyle convinced "Bart" that they weren't that bad. Or how they joked about how the manatees weren't afraid of terrorists. And especially the guy who said he just liked it because it was funny even if irreverent. I think a lot of us who like both feel the same way. They made some good points either way.

Plus all the animation is done months in advance. Most of the season was done last year.

All in all, decent episode, though. I wasn't terribly disappointed.

Dumpster prom baby was way, way over the line. But I still laughed.
I also really liked the Top Gun reference. And all the Asian girls let out from Quagmire's place. "Don't worry, they're tagged."

Season 5 was just released on DVD last week. Anybody else get it?
I nearly wet myself laughing when a flashback sequence had Dick Cheney working as a Walmart greeter repeating "#$&* You!" as the customers walked in. On these disks they don't bleep out the swearing.

That was the only thing I didn't quite get. Luckily, my father was watching with me as I switched between this and the Cowboys game (woot! take that Bears!). It was very weird, for once we were agreeing about stuff in football AND we were laughing at Family Guy.

Adult Swim on Cartoon Network on Sunday nights usually reruns it a couple of weeks later. I don't know what they're going to do with this one though. I'm sure someone will rerun it eventually.
Was a good episode. My favorite part being the Robot Chicken exchange. I hear sometime later in the season they're going to mention the South Park thing too.

I think it's pretty much MacRumors tradition for this thread to be revived every time a new season starts up!
The Star Wars thing was pretty funny...I mean it was okay. It had it's moments. I enjoyed the part at the end where they were making fun of Robot Chicken. I wonder how many people actually know that's Seth Green's show.

Please dear God kill the old Pedophile man, Herbert I think.
His voice is so annoying as is the humor they attribute to the character every time he shows up.
it was funny for about 2 eps, but they are really pushing that guy and like the vaudeville guys, KILL HIM OFF!
The song n dance number during the last ep, omfg, just die already.

Yes, agreed...that character is really getting old and overused. In fact the use of song in general on that show is getting old and overused -- that bit, the bit with Herbert and Chris with the Little Shop of Horrors song, that dance bit with Stewie and Gene Kelly, and Peter's song/dance with the New England Patriots. Enough!!

Here is some good news.SUNDAY NIGHT TURNED INTO THE big night for young men and TV--but before you blurt out "football game," think "Family Guy."
Against NBC's "Sunday Night Football"--and a strong match-up featuring the Dallas Cowboys-Chicago Bears--Fox's "Family Guy" earned a surprising best rating since returning to the network over two-and-a-half years ago: a preliminary 5.5 rating/13 share among 18-49 viewers.

So who saw tonight's episode?
After being completely underwhelmed by the Star Wars episode, I came into tonight's show hoping for redemption. I did not laugh once :(. The series in general now feels tired, dated, and is struggling to hold my interest. The writing is just not there, which is sad.
I'm still praying for a turnaround with the series, but the season thus far has been really quite dull for me, I hardly even have an urge to watch anymore (this coming from a Family Guy addict from yesteryear).

That sucks to hear...I won't be able to watch until tomorrow. And I agree about the Star Wars episode -- what a dog.
At first I kind of disagreed with South Park when they made fun of the show, but now I really do agree with them. It never used to be this bad...the last couple of seasons, most of the shows are comprised of jokes attributed to totally random things, with no actual connection to the storyline. There's still a lot of funny, but not as good as the old ones.

Tonight's episode sucked. Seriously. Last week's Star Wars was pretty underwhelming, IMO, and tonight's wasn't any better. I agree: I did not laugh AT ALL. Family Guy really has gone downhill this season, and that's really unfortunate. :(

Wow so I was hoping you guys were exaggerating, but that really was bad. That may very well be the least funny episode of Family Guy I've ever seen. What is it with them in the last couple of seasons where almost every show, there will be a part where two characters exchange this long, boring dialogue that doesn't relate at all to the plot -- it's like the writers think it's funny for them to ramble on or something. In this case I'm talking about the parts where Chris and the convenience store guy are talking to each other. Was that supposed to be funny??
American Dad on the other hand was pretty funny, as usual. Guess maybe the writers have shifted their focus from Family Guy to AD.

I think it was supposed to be like Clerks or something. It wasn't horrible, but it was very lazy and not very funny. I think they rely on that far too much, now it just seems like they're stretching.

I liked the star wars episode just fine ... a few good jokes here and there. I mean sadly I've been the friend who's been convinced to carry couches home from a curb side ... but yeah star wars was plenty funny to me.
I agree this week's episode was lack luster ... but at the same time I remember a few funny things ... stewie telling the creepy old guy to F-off ... ok I can't remember that many funny things but yeah.

Am I the only one that really liked the Movin' out episode? I actually thought it was a return to the season 1-2 form, more natural dialog, did have some cutaways but they were brief and usually entertaining, didn't overuse too many jokes, didn't pointlessly bash Meg.....
Considering how bad some of the previous season was...though it seems that I enjoy the episodes that do seem to concentrate more on plot. For instance, the Quagmire wedding episode I thought was pretty well written.

The show needs more Quagmire, that character brings the comedy relief. And they need Stewie to be more of an evil genius that is always after Luis. I don't like how they are using Stewie anymore.
