USB Hard Drive Mounting Issue

I am currently having an issue on my G5 at work where if the G5 has been on for a while and I try and plug in a USB 2.0 External hard drive or Jump drive it will not mount. I have checked the System Profiler and it shows a USB2.0 Storage Device listed there. I have tried the command line to look for the volumes and I have also tried disk utility and it does not show up in either place. If I restart and have the drive plugged in or plug it in shortly after the system has been started it shows up just fine.

Anyone have any ideas on how to rectify this. The system in question is a 1.8 Single Processor G5 PowerMac with 1GB of RAM.

Perhaps it is just a bad thumb drive. While robust, flash drives can go bad.

[EDIT] It is a problem with Tiger.

It is a new drive.
It is HFS+
I tried other USB ports as well and still no luck.

Both the flash drive and the powered USB 2.0 External HD work flawlessly on my G4 iBook. it is just weird.

Once the drive is mounted it stays active and mounted until I unmount it. It does not unmount all on its own.

I also had this issue in Panther as well.

Weird.
