What is a .gen file?

Does anybody know what a .gen file is. I assume it may be used in unix but I am not too familiar with it. I am prompted to pick an aplication to open it. Would I use terminal to do this?

nope its not terminal, open it in bbedit it opens everything, see what it looks like inside
